Fire damages 5 businesses, displaces 5 families in downtown Fergus Falls

Five buildings, including Lake Country Graphics (back), sustained major fire and/or water damage. Upper level apartment residents escaped injury, but one fireman sustained a broken arm while fighting the blaze. Firefighters from nine area fire departments fought the fire.

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – A fire that started in a downtown Fergus Falls apartment Sunday night has grown to displace five families and damage five businesses and it continues to burn this morning, according to a written statement released by Fire Chief Mark Hovland.

One Fergus Falls firefighter has been injured in the blaze and a total of 102 firefighters have helped fight the fire, Hovland said.

Nine fire departments have provided mutual aid and two additional fire departments have been asked to assist.

The fire was reported about 10:20 p.m. at 229½ W. Lincoln Ave.
