Park Rapids funeral director hurt in Wadena County crash

Park Rapids funeral home director Tim Pearson is recovering at St. Joseph’s Area Health Services after being involved in a serious crash Monday night in Wadena County.

According to the Wadena County Sheriff’s office, just before 11 p.m., Timothy Deane Pearson, 55, of Park Rapids, was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan that collided with the rear DOT bumper on a 2000 Mack truck and trailer driven by Jeffrey Alan Fix.

The crash occurred on County Road 23 just south of County Road 18 in Shell River Township.

“Both vehicles were northbound, with the semi-tractor with trailer slowing to make a right turn into private property,” a press release indicated.

"The driver of the semi noticed the vehicle coming up behind him did not appear to see him, he started to accelerate to try to avoid a collision and tap his brakes to get the other drivers attention.”

Pearson’s vehicle was severely damaged. Fix was not injured.

“Pearson was taken to S.t Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries,” the press release said.  Menahga First Responders, Tri County Ambulance and the DNR assisted with the crash.

According to Jones-Pearson Funeral Home, Pearson underwent surgery to control internal bleeding and his condition is improving.

The funeral home said he was returning from St. Cloud when the crash occurred.

It was the second crash involving a rear-end collision with a truck Monday.

Earlier, a woman was injured when her car rear-ended a tandem axle truck east of Dorset on Highway 34 at 5 p.m.
