UPDATED: Woman dies in Otter Tail County rollover; driver arrested

A man has been arrested for criminal vehicular homicide following the death of a Texas woman in an accident near Pelican Rapids on July 4.

Holly Nicole Homewood, age 29, of New Waverly, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, 42-year-old David Shane Hamil of Cape Coral, Fla., was transported to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The news release states that, at 1:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call from a party camping on Franklin Lake, northeast of Pelican Rapids. The party reported that someone was calling for help on the east side of the lake.

The Pelican Rapids fire and police departments responded, along with Pelican Ambulance and the sheriff’s office. They found a 2007 Dodge Caliber passenger car rolled over, with Homewood and Hamil inside.

The car was southbound on County Road 31 and failed to negotiate a curve, entering the west ditch, rolling and coming to rest in Franklin Lake.

The release states that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
