Woman airlifted after bicycle crash north of Park Rapids
A female bicyclist from St. Louis, Mo., appeared to be critically injured Tuesday morning on Highway 71 north of Park Rapids.
According to authorities, 57-year-old Dana Anderson and her husband were headed to the Mississippi Headwaters at Itasca State Park.
Authorities on the scene said Anderson's husband was riding behind her. Anderson apparently hit the rumble strip on the side of the highway eight miles north of town near the Breeze Campground, which caused the front wheel of her bicycle to wobble, and then crash. She flew over the handlebars of the bike and was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived.
She was airlifted to the trauma unit of North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale at roughly 11:45 a.m. Her husband was transported there by vehicle. The accident occurred at 10:46 a.m.
The Highway Patrol said her helmet split from the impact. The condition of the 57-year-old woman is unknown, but is believed to be critical. The Minnesota State Patrol, Hubbard County Sheriff's Department and North Memorial ambulances responded.
