Three burned in fuel tank explosion
One man was severely burned, and two others suffered first and second degree burns, when a fuel tank exploded in Battle Lake on Monday.
According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office, William Litzau, age 57, Osage, was using a cutting torch to remove straps on the fuel tank of a John Deere combine when the tank exploded.
Litzau suffered severe burns to his upper body and face and was transported to Perham Health with life threatening injuries. He was later lifeflighted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Two other men at the scene were also injured, according to the sheriff's office. Curt Zacharias, age 35, Richville, got second degree burns on his right hand. Tresten Schaefer, age 36, Frazee, got second degree burns to his arm and first degree burns to his neck and face.
