Fargo man accidentally shoots himself in hand
FARGO - Police say a man accidentally shot himself in the hand while cleaning a pistol overnight in south Fargo.
The man was on his way to the hospital at about 1:50 a.m. when he called authorities to report the incident, Sgt. Jim Kringlie said. Two other people were home at the time of the accidental shooting in the 2200 block of 57th Avenue South, but they were not injured.
The pistol was a .40-caliber Glock similar to what police carry, Kringlie said.
"To disassemble it, you do have to pull the trigger, but you're supposed to empty it first," he said.
While it's illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits, police are not recommending prosecution, Kringlie said.
