Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident near Perham on Thursday.

The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 34 and 410th Avenue at about 8:30 a.m., according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.

Suffering lower back pain as a result of the crash was Jamie Kent Huttenen, 42, of Wadena. Sophia Viola Byer, 18, of Perham, sustained head and back pain. Both were taken to Perham Health.

Deputies said Huttenen was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Kodiak commercial vehicle westbound on County Highway 34, approaching the intersection with 410th Avenue. Just as Huttenen came upon the junction, Byer pulled into the intersection while traveling south on 410th Avenue. She was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 passenger car.

Byer's car was broadsided by Huttenen's commercial vehicle.

Byer told authorities that she looked but did not see Huttenen's vehicle. Huttenen was not able to stop in time to avoid the impact.

Deputies said road conditions and weather patterns did not appear to be contributing factors to the crash.

The Perham Fire Department and EMS assisted at the scene.
