Bicyclist, driver, both hospitalized after crash near Dorset

A bicyclist was struck by an elderly motorist Monday evening north of Dorset.

Both were airlifted to area hospitals and are listed in critical condition.

The female cyclist, identified as 63-year-old Linda Larson of Park Rapids, was struck on County Road 7 at 5:30. She suffered numerous broken bones and was airlifted to North Memorial Hiospital in Robbinsdale.

The male driver, identified as 79-year-old James Burt of Park Rapids, left the scene, according to eyewitnesses.

Hubbard County Attorney Don Dearstyne, who drafted a warrant for a blood draw on the vehicle driver, said he was told a medical issue was the cause of the crash.

Burt was pulled over on County Road 11, the extension of County 7 as it heads south of Highway 34.

He had head injuries and an unspecified medical condition, according to Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes.

Burt was airlifted to a Fargo hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
