Berube promoted to bank president
Allan Berube has been promoted to the position of president at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in New York Mills, the Board of Directors announced at its January meeting.
Berube has served as the executive vice president of the bank since 2006. He takes over for Edward Buerkle, who became president in 1977.
"Al's commitment and many years in an executive position have proven how well suited he is to lead our bank," stated Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ed Buerkle. "He leads by example and has been an integral part of the growth of the bank."
Berube is very familiar with leadership positions, as he currently serves on the board of the Independent Community Bankers of Minnesota, is an advisor to the NY Mills Economic Development Authority, serves on the NY Mills Community Fund Board as well as the Perham Health Finance Committee.
Over the years, Berube's leadership has helped to guide a variety of entities, including the NY Mills City Council, West Central Initiative and the NY Mills Lions Club Board.
Community vitality is very important to Berube. As he states, "One of the best parts of being a community banker is that I get to help customers with their projects from start to finish. I get to see them achieve their goals and help our community grow at the same time. As president, I'm excited to continue the commitment of Farmers and Merchants to community strength and collaboration."
NY Mills has benefited from Al's leadership and enthusiasm.
His work with one of the biggest local community events is touched on by Dirk Hyde, President of Lund Boats and NY Mills Operations for Brunswick: "Al is an integral part of the New York Mills community. His commitment and dedication to NY Mills' Lund Mania Fishing Tournament has been vital to its success. He is active in the planning and organization of this important community event and volunteers to lead and assist in the numerous activities required. Farmers and Merchants Bank has appointed a true leader to direct their organization."
A small town farm boy from North Dakota, Berube began his career as an agriculture loan officer at Farmers State Bank in Carrington, N.D.
A graduate of North Dakota State University, Fargo, as well as the North Dakota and Colorado School of Banking, he started at Farmers and Merchants in 1989. He joined the Board of Directors in 1993. and his wife, Jana, have three sons and two daughters-in-law. The not-too-distant future will see the birth of their first grandchild and the wedding of their third son.
Farmers and Merchants State Bank is locally owned and has provided financial services to the NY Mills area since 1916.
