Scam averted near Pelican Rapids
A woman in rural Pelican Rapids was called by a scam artist saying he was employed with the state of Minnesota. He then ordered the woman to purchase iTunes and send them to a specific address.
The woman contacted her son who in turn contacted the Otter Tail County sheriff's office on Oct. 31.
"The red flag is raised when the caller asks someone to purchase iTunes," said County Sheriff Brian Schlueter.
An iTune device is a social media player developed by Apple Inc. Users, through iTunes Store, can purchase and download music, music videos, TV shows, audiobooks and movies.
Skid steer destroyed
A skid steer on fire was destroyed near New York Mills on Oct. 31, at mid-afternoon.
"Authorities, including our department, were called at 3:53 p.m. and were told that an older model skid steer was on fire," said County Sheriff Brian Schlueter.
No injuries were reported and the fire did not spread to any nearby buildings.
The fire took place along 510th Avenue, west of town.
