Drug bust near Fergus Falls
A drug bust took place Saturday afternoon, Feb. 10, about 1:30 p.m. near the Big Chief truck stop south of Fergus Falls, close to Interstate 94.
County sheriff deputies referred media outlets to the State Highway Patrol.
Later, area news outlets reported that State Patrol officers, with k-9 dog assistance, checked a vehicle and removed 13 to 15 garbage bags believed to be containing marijuana.
Witnesses said a vehicle had Oregon license plates.
Two people, a man and woman, were handcuffed and taken away in a State Highway Patrol vehicle.
They were reportedly taken to the county jail in Fergus Falls and were expected to be charged on Monday, Feb. 12, with third-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Tractors, other equipment lost in Pelican Rapids fire
A fire early in the afternoon on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Pelican Rapids, resulted in destruction of tractors and other equipment.
The fire, according to sheriff deputies, took place at an equipment/storage shed owned by Peter Westby.
"The fire was believed to have been caused by a block heater and/or extension cord running to the block heater on a tractor," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.
Along with destruction to several tractors was the loss of a skid steer, implements and other farm-related equipment.
The shed measuring 100 by 50 feet was a total loss.
There were no injuries. Responding to the scene were fire departments from Pelican Rapids and Elizabeth.
Theft at Vergas
Sheriff deputies reported the theft of $355 in cash from the country store in Vergas. The call came in to authorities on Feb. 9.
The theft of money from the store was made after a non-forced entry. The investigation by the county sheriff office was continuing as a Monday morning, Feb. 12.
Assault near Deer Creek
One woman was arrested near the intersection of Highways 210 and 29 at 10:35 p.m. on Feb. 10.
This followed a fight in a vehicle between two women, south of Deer Creek and east of Henning.
The woman who was arrested was taken to the county jail in Fergus Falls.
