Series of unlawful events lands man in jail

A 24-year-old Detroit Lakes man was arrested in Otter Tail County on Sunday after a series of unlawful events, including vehicle theft and DWI.

A press release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office states:

After getting into an argument at a wedding reception in Ottertail, Jacob Syverson left the reception looking for a ride back to Detroit Lakes. Unable to find a ride, he stole a 2006 Dodge Ram pick-up truck pulling a camper.

Syverson ended up in Fergus Falls instead of Detroit Lakes, where he struck a fire hydrant with the stolen pick-up and got it stuck.

He fled from the pick-up and broke out the window of another pick-up nearby. Unable to locate keys to that vehicle, he knocked on the door of a nearby residence and asked for help.

Syverson was arrested by the sheriff’s department for DWI, motor vehicle theft and other charges.

The sheriff’s office and Fergus Falls Police Department are investigating.
