Grand Forks woman arrested after fire in bathroom at hotel
GRAND FORKS -- A Grand Forks woman was arrested Wednesday evening after a fire in a bathroom at the Budget Inn Express.
Grand Forks firefighters responded to a fire call about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at 3400 Gateway Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from a large vent in the roof, officials said.
The entire south half of the wing, about 20 rooms, was evacuated while firefighters located the cause of the smoke, Battalion Chief Rob Corbett said. Paper products and clothing had been set on fire in a bathroom of one of the rooms, officials said.
After questioning, Grand Forks Police arrested Lisa Marie LeBlanc, 40, who faces a Class C felony of endangerment by fire, officials said. LeBlanc admitted to starting the fire after an altercation with a friend, officials said. She was taken to the Grand Forks County Correctional Facility. She will make a court appearance at 3 p.m. today in district court.
Damage to the room was estimated at $1,200.
