Man accused of fracturing woman's eye socket
A 42-year-old Dent man appeared in court Monday for allegedly breaking a woman's orbital socket outside of Richville in July.
On July 18, an Otter Tail County Sheriff's deputy responded to a bar in Dent, where a woman had reported she had been severely injured by Daniel Daugherty, according to the criminal complaint.
When the deputy arrived, he observed the woman had a severely swollen eye with extensive bruising and cuts to her inside lip.
According to the complaint, Daugherty and the woman were driving on Hwy 35 near Richville that night when he stuck his head out the window, a move that caused his glasses to fall off. He then put the car in park, while traveling around 60 mph, and began to blame the woman for his glasses falling off. He allegedly punched her around eight times.
The woman then fled the vehicle and sought refuge in a swamp, where she stayed for two hours, according to the complaint. During that time, Daugherty waited in the car. The woman eventually got in the car with him and drove to a house in Dent.
At the home, the woman snuck out and ran to the bar, where she called law enforcement.
The woman was transported to Perham Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for a fractured orbital socket.
When deputies questioned Daugherty, he allegedly admitted to driving with the woman near Richville but denied hurting her. The complaint states he said the woman would injure herself to make it look like he had done it.
