Gabriele Anderson left Boston day before bombing

BOSTON — Perham's most accomplished professional runner Gabriele Anderson was in Boston for the Boston Marathon Weekend, which suffered multiple bombings Monday afternoon. She was not participating in the marathon, but was in the city as part of the weekend celebration.

Anderson announced on Twitter at 3:45 p.m. Monday that she had departed Boston Sunday evening and was back safely in Minnesota.

Anderson ran in the Boston Athletic Association Mile Sunday. According to Anderson, the Mile race crosses the finish line three times as part of the loop course. Two bombs exploded near the finish line on Monday.

Anderson finished second in the Professional Women's Mile in a time of 4:52.7. Fellow-American Brenda Martinez won the race in 4:51.4.

"It seems exceptionally un-newsworthy now, of course," Anderson said. "Boston is amazing for runners."

Anderson was in Boston Thursday through Sunday night. She stayed in a hotel three blocks from the explosions.

Ben Geyer, of Henning, and his family were in attendance Monday. Geyer finished the marathon and an interview with him will be aired on WDAY-TV's 10 p.m. newscast Monday evening. Geyer finished in a time of 3:42:26. According to several news reports, the explosions happened just after the four-hour mark on the race timer. Four hours is the average finishing time.

A number of regional runners crossed the line around the four-hour mark.

Scot Rownd, of Fergus Falls, finished the marathon in a official time of 3:52.28. Jeanne Barlage, of Carlos, finished in 3:58.52.

According to WDAY's Dom Izzo, 14 runners from the Fargo-Moorhead metro participated in today's race.

Full searchable results, including searches by city and state, for the marathon can be found here.

The Boston Globe posted photos from Monday's tragic event.
