Underwood man arrested after firing shots at vehicle

An Underwood man has been arrested for second degree assault after firing shots at a vehicle that he claims was trying to run him over.

Bryan Nelson, age 50, called the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office at about 7 p.m. on May 25 to report that a person had attempted to run him over with a motor vehicle at the end of his driveway.

As the driver was driving away, Nelson drew a handgun that he was carrying and fired shots in the direction of the vehicle, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. Nelson said he was not aiming for the vehicle but was just trying to scare the driver.

The driver, however, told officers that he was simply trying to deliver a letter to Nelson, when Nelson came running from his house and fired shots at him as he was driving away.

The sheriff’s office said no evidence was found to indicate that the driver had attempted to hit Nelson with his vehicle. The driver’s name has not been released.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
