Clean audit for NYM School

Brian Stavanger from the Eide Bailly CPA firm attended the New York Mills School Board meeting on Sept. 23 to present 2013’s audit findings.

Stavanger read through the audit report’s executive summary and stated that the school district had received “a clean and unmodified opinion… What we’re telling you is that the numbers that are in those financial statements we’ve verified and recalculated. They’re accurate.”

He added that the audit does not make or reflect an opinion about the school district’s use of its resources, or its overall financial health.

In general fund revenues, the audit showed, the district came in a bit over budget, collecting more than expected.

On the expenditures side, the district spent less than what was indicated in the original budget.

“That’s very, very, very good,” said Stavanger. “When you’re looking at the budgeting process, you should be very comfortable with what the administration introduces to you … those are some pretty solid numbers. …They know what they’re doing.”

In other news, the board:

-Heard from FFA members Logan Milligan and Brooke Hendricks and advisor Kris Koll about awards won at the state fair.

-Received $120 from the “Eagles Checks” program at Farmers and Merchants State Bank.

-Accepted an Early Learning Scholarships Pathway II grant of $25,000.

-Accepted a donation of $4,000 from Womenade Helping Hearts, Inc.
