As the 2013-14 school year comes to a close, the Perham FFA chapter is working hard to leave its mark in the community.

Recently, students traveled to St. Paul to meet with Governor Mark Dayton and State Representatives such as Rep. Bud Nornes, R-Fergus Falls. They took a tour of the Capital, and talked about agriculture in colleges and schools.

Lindsey Loerzel, president of the Perham FFA chapter, said she enjoyed discussing agricultural issues with Nornes and learning more about the capital.

The General Livestock Team did well at the final regional meet, taking second place and advancing to state. Individually, Lindsey Loerzel placed first and Shawna Loerzel placed eighth.

The FFA State Convention is scheduled for April 27-29 at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The Perham chapter will take16 students to compete.

While there, students will listen to keynote speakers and participate in many leadership strengthening activities. To earn money for this trip, Perham FFA students are selling ‘Sweet and Savory Snacks.’ If interested in ordering, contact Perham FFA leader Shell Tumberg or an FFA member.

The FFA will host its annual banquet on Friday, May 9 at 6 p.m. in the Perham High School Commons. Free will donations will be accepted. Following a dinner, awards will be given, seniors recognized, and honorary members inducted. All alumni are invited to come, as well as community members. Contact Shell Tumberg to RSVP.
