“Write here, write there, write everywhere you go.”

That’s just one of the things third and fourth graders from Heart of the Lakes Elementary learned at the recent Young Writers (and Other Artists) Conference in Fergus Falls, according to third grader Soren Anderson.

Kids participated in break-out sessions at the conference, listening to stories and learning tips from authors, illustrators and photographers.

Session leaders included J.C. Jenson, Bob Gasch, Imaginick, Elen Bahr, Jim Fletcher, Steve Maanum and Douglas Wood, stated information provided by the school.

In an essay written about the conference afterward, Anderson said, “J.C. Jenson was cool, same with Bob Gasch, but that was not enough. We ate lunch it was good, it was probably the best in the neighborhood. Next we got up and went to a magic show, and then we heard a story about a windigo.”

The experience was supported with funding from a 549 Foundation grant.
