The Perham School Board met Wednesday, Oct. 11, and among the items discussed at the meeting were possible changes to the daily high school routine next year, participation by middle school students in the Knowledge Bowl, and the start of "Buzzin About You" at the elementary school.
High School Principal Ehren Zimmerman said a working group is looking at the benefits of moving to year long math and english for ninth and tenth graders to support students for career and college needs and MCA testing. The current curriculum only requires Freshman and Sophomores take english and math for two of the three trimesters.
Junior High Principal Scott Bjerke reported that over 40 seventh and eighth grade students are a part of the Knowledge Bowl Program at Prairie Wind Middle School. Nineteen headed to Fergus Fall for the first meet of the 2017 season. The group was divided into four teams, and one Perham team was recognized for their diligent improvement and given the "Moving On Up" award.
At Heart of the Lakes Elementary School, Principal Jen Hendrickson said they will begin handing out "Buzzin About You" tickets. Teachers will give them to students for doing great things, such as helping a friend, working hard, etc. Students can bring the ticket to the office and parents will be notified of the great things their kids are doing. The elementary school is hosting the Spooky Spooktacular Spaghetti Dinner and Glow Dance on Friday, Oct. 27, at the school from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
