WDC superintendent job goes to Westrum

Benson Superintendent Lee Westrum has been selected to be the next superintendent for Wadena-Deer Creek District 2155.

The 43-year-old was offered the position by WDC School Board Chairman Steve Techam on Saturday, after the board voted unanimously in favor of Westrum.

Westrum verbally accepted the offer with the understanding it is subject to a pending contract, according to a press release issued by District 2155.

Techam said the board hopes to have Westrum under contract by the first week of March. Virginia Dahlstrom, who has served as WDC superintendent since 2008, is under contract until June 30. Pending approval of his contract, Westrum would begin his job with WDC on July 1.

Westrum has been superintendent of Benson Public Schools since 2007. He joined the Benson district as a social studies teacher in 1992, and worked as activities director and principal before becoming superintendent.

Westrum is a native of Clearbrook, Minn. He received his bachelor's degree in social studies education from Bemidji State University, and he received his educational administration degrees from St. Cloud State University.

Westrum's wife, Jennifer (Carter), is a 1989 graduate of Wadena High School. The Westrum's two daughters are in seventh and first grade.
