Coats for Kids drive going on now through Oct. 10

The annual Coats for Kids drive is underway in Otter Tail County.

The program helps defray costs for parents who may not be able to afford cold weather clothing.

Last year, more than 1,500 coats, hats and mittens were distributed to families throughout the county, and organizers say the same number is expected this year.

Community members can help struggling families by simply cleaning out their closets. New or gently used coats, snow pants, boots, hats and mittens, sizes birth to adult XL, are being accepted.

Though the program is called Coats for Kids, adult coats are being accepted, as well.

Donations may be dropped off at Bremer Bank, Calvary Lutheran Church and United Community Bank in Perham, or at United Way Of Otter Tail County in Fergus Falls.

Those in need of cold weather clothing may pick up items at Calvary on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., or call or stop by the United Way office, at 218-736-5147. For more information, or to volunteer, call Jill at 346-7102.
