Community garden looking for volunteers to ‘dig in’

Community members are invited to a planning meeting for the Perham Community Garden on April 15 at 5 p.m.

Discussion and planning for the garden’s 18th year will take place at Perham Living, in the lower-level meeting room.

“Any contribution of time, muscle, expertise will help,” said Marilyn Hofland, who has been a leading organizer of the community garden.

Opportunities are available for volunteers with a variety of experience. A green thumb is not required.

The community garden is located next to the Perham Community Food Shelf. It is split into two portions: one for family plots and the other for the Perham Community Food Shelf.

Families with limited resources can sign up for one of the family plots. A volunteer mentor will help demonstrate how to plant, care for and harvest garden crops.

The other portioin of the garden will be cared for by volunteers, with all of the produce going to the food shelf and the people it serves.

Those who are interested in volunteering with the gardens but are unable to attend the meeting may contact Hofland at 218-631-7638.
