Fiction writer on retreat in New York Mills
Fiction writer Annie Baxter is on retreat in New York Mills this December. Baxter lives in St. Paul and can often be heard on Minnesota Public Radio reporting business news. She will be hosting a special program this spring on MPR about Minnesota's literary culture. She is also the 2009 recipient of the Loft Literary Center Fiction Mentor Award.
In her stories, Baxter aims to create dialogue that "crackles with tension and emotion." Her two-week residency will allow her time to focus on a novel project, and some personal essays.
The NY Mills Arts Retreat focuses on providing emerging artists of all disciplines time for creative development and exploration. A two or four-week retreat is awarded to artists, musicians or writers chosen by a panel of their peers. Since 1987, artists from across the globe have come to NY Mills to experience the quiet solitude afforded by the small-town Minnesota atmosphere. Application deadlines for retreat are twice per year: April 1 and Oct. 1.
