Perham-Dent students wanted to help Wadena-Deer Creek students after the devastating tornadoes last summer. And they did.

A check for $1,300 that last year's Perham student council raised by designing and selling T-shirts was presented to the Wadena-Deer Creek student council on Jan. 25 at the girls basketball game.

The fundraiser was part of a project the Perham High School student council put together after the Wadena tornado last June, according to teacher Mary Karkela. Kari Hanson, 2010 PHS graduate, was the instigator of this project, Karkela said. Hanson visited Karkela after the tornado, wanted to do something for WDC students, and had T-shirts designed. The T-shirts were sold by Hanson and other student council members throughout the summer, Karkela said. Members contacted various businesses in the community and dropped off shirts that they agreed to sell.

The money goes to the WDC student council to be used in any way they see fit for their student body, Karkela said.
