COLA to host awards ceremony this Saturday

On Saturday, Aug. 25, Jerry Horgen, along with the Minnesota DNR's Northwest Regional Director Lori Dowling, will co-host the 2012 Volunteer and Lake Association of the Year Awards for Otter Tail County.

The awards program is in its third year and provides Otter Tail County lake groups with an opportunity to showcase what their valued volunteers are doing, individually or as a group.

The Otter Tail County Coalition of Lake Association's Volunteer of the Year Award is meant to inspire and recognize the achievements of an individual volunteer who has demonstrated talent, time and commitment to protect and preserve the county's lakes, rivers and wetlands for future generations.  Nominees are Roger Neitzke, Shawn Olson, Ellen Palmer, Jeff Peltier and Bernie Steeves.

The Lake Association of the Year Award is given to an association that has successfully implemented a lake improvement project, or has successfully implemented an educational or outreach program, or has substantially increased membership and/or participation of their membership, or has successfully partnered with the local/county, state and/or federal government or other agencies. The nominee is the Pelican Lake Property Owners Association.

Otter Tail County COLA's mission is to encourage and assist lake associations as they protect and preserve the county's lakes for future generations.

To become a member, contact Pat Prunty at 218-864-3115 and request an application.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Ottertail Community Center. The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. to allow time for coffee and socializing before the start of the 9 a.m. meeting. All meetings are open to the public, and people are encouraged to bring a friend.
