Fire destroys barn near Pelican Rapids
The sheriff’s office reported that a barn northwest of Pelican Rapids was destroyed by fire early in the morning on Aug. 4. The location was near Highway 21 in the northern section of Norwegian Grove Township, near the Clay County line.
“The barn, 100 years old, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters from Pelican Rapids arrived on the scene,” said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.
The barn, according to owners, was used mainly for storage. There were no animals inside and no people were injured.
“Also destroyed were a fish house and boat that were stored outside the barn,” said Van Dyke.Aluminum canoe stolen
The theft of a 1975 Grumman 18-foot aluminum canoe was reported Aug. 3 from a resident who lives at River Oaks Lane just west of Fergus Falls near Highway 210.
The canoe was left outside the residence. There were no immediate suspects.Beer growler containers taken near Blanche Lake
Five growler containers of beer, each containing 64 ounces of beer, were taken from an unlocked garage near Blanche Lake.
The owner told sheriff deputies that the theft likely took place between Aug. 2 and Aug. 5.
Blanche Lake is located northeast of Battle Lake, between Glendalough State Park (to the south) and Otter Tail Lake (to the north).
