Minn. teacher arrested for alleged child sexual abuse
DULUTH -- A 33-year-old Duluth middle school teacher has been arrested for alleged child sexual abuse. The woman was booked into the St. Louis County Jail on Monday afternoon, May 21, on a preliminary charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim between the ages 13-15, according to jail records.
Karla Winterfeld, a teacher at Lincoln Park Middle School teacher was arrested around 3:15 p.m. Monday as part of an ongoing investigation. Winterfeld was listed on the St. Louis County jail roster Tuesday afternoon.
“The victim in this case has been identified and we have not been made aware of or believe there are other victims,” police said in a statement.
No further information was immediately released, with formal charges and an arraignment expected Wednesday morning.
Duluth school district spokeswoman Katie Kaufman said the teacher has been placed on administrative leave while school officials cooperate with the police investigation.
In 2016, Winterfeld was listed on the Duluth News Tribune’s “20 under 40,” which recognized the youngest movers and shakers in the area.
