Letter to the Editor: United Way says ‘thanks’ for making food drop a success

On Dec. 20, United Way of Otter Tail County coordinated another Project Community Connect food drop in Perham.

This event was held at Calvary Lutheran Church, where any resident of the county could come to receive food, information about social service programs, and even a complimentary haircut. More than 104 households took advantage of these services.

Although United Way coordinates this event, it would not be such a success without the help of so many different individuals and groups, including more than 50 volunteers from the area, the church, Friends of Friends Fighting Hunger, Kit Masters, Caring Neighbors, the Perham Food Shelf, local barber shop and salon owners from Doug’s Barber and Untangled, and many others.

People waiting in line for food received information and goodies from agencies including Lakeland Mental Health, The Arc West Central, Apple Tree Dental, Mahube-Otwa, Minnesota Workforce CEP, and Someplace Safe.

We are thankful to have so many great partners who believe in the United Way mission to improve lives in Otter Tail County!

The majority of the cost of this food drop was paid for by the Friends of Friends Fighting Hunger group. If anyone in our community would like to support this group’s mission to end hunger in Otter Tail County, please purchase a ticket to their annual dinner on Jan. 25. Proceeds of more than $70,000 from last year’s dinner were used to fund four food drops across the county, the Children’s Weekend Feeding Backpack program, and seven area food shelves. Tickets may be purchased by calling 218-770-9406 or 218-736-5147.

Thank you again, and Happy New Year!
