Concordia to name baseball field in honor of Bucky Burgau

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., will name its baseball field in honor of 36-year Head Coach Bucky Burgau, who is retiring at the end of the 2014 season. The dedication ceremony for Bucky Burgau Field will take place at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 29. The event immediately precedes Concordia's regular-season closing doubleheader against Bethel.

"The decision to name the field in honor of Bucky was very easy," says Rich Glas, Concordia Athletics Director. "Bucky is Cobber baseball. He is a remarkable coach and has been an incredible role model for hundreds of Cobber student athletes."

Burgau is the all-time winningest coach in MIAC baseball history. He recently became the first coach in the history of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to earn his 700th career win. He has the 12th most wins of any active coach in all of NCAA Division III.

Burgau is a four-time MIAC Coach of the Year and has guided the Cobbers to three MIAC championships — in 1985, 1993 and 1995. Burgau is the only coach in league history to amass over 400 conference wins. He was elected to the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
