Yellowjacket girls basketball races past Crosby-Ironton

Crosby-The Perham Yellowjacket girls basketball team took to the road on Thursday evening to take on the Crosby-Ironton Rangers on Thursday, Dec. 18.

Maria Rutten poured in 33, while Jane Wunderlich added 14 in helping the Yellowjackets to a 64-47 victory.

Perham Head Coach TJ Super said the team provided very good effort and limited turnovers in the contest.

“Rutten had 22 at the half, just phenomenally aggressive. She missed some, but kept shooting. She made way more than she missed,” Super said via e-mail. “That’s the player we need her to be every game.”

The Yellowjackets held a 38-29 lead at the break, and added to it in the second half. The Yellowjackets outscored the Rangers, 26-18, in the second half.

“Brittany Miller distributed the ball well with eight assists. She was aggressive, making things happen,” Super said. “Janie Wunderlich was aggressive as well. She played awesome on the ball defense, and got a couple of steals for layups. She hit some 3-pointers in the second half, when they went box-and-1 on Rutten. It was a great team effort.”

Wunderlich hit three 3-pointers in the game, while Rutten finished with five. The Yellowjackets hit nine 3-pointers in the contest.

Miller finished with a team high of eight assists. Amy Scheidecker and Rutten had three each.

The Yellowjacket defense forced 25 turnovers in the game, while holding the Rangers to 47 points.

Lauren Peterson led the way for Crosby-Ironton. She finished the game with 17 points.
