HOCKEY: Laker boys win second game in a row

Senior captain Jack DeConcini’s lone goal of the third period held up in a 2-1 Detroit Lakes boys hockey victory over Fargo North Saturday at the Fargo Coliseum.

It was the first time this season the Lakers have put together consecutive wins and DL is 4-1-1 in their last six games after a tough 0-4 start to the year.

After a scoreless first period, DL fell behind on an even strength goal by Fargo’s Caleb Fritel.

DL’s Will Green evened the game unassisted six minutes later as the team’s headed to the second intermission tied 1-1.

Jace Kovash and Trey Seebold were credited with helpers on DeConcini’s power play game-winner at 4:06 of the third period.

Ben Boomgarden continued to be solid in net for DL stopping 32 of 33 shots to record the victory. Boomgarden weathered a 19-4 Fargo shot advantage in the final period of play. Fargo North had 14 shots in the first two periods before letting loose in the third.

North netminder Ryley Pladson made 17 saves.

There were 13 penalties called in the game. DL was 1-7 with the man advantage; Fargo North was 0-6.

DL will play a previously weather-postponed Mid-State Conference game against Prairie Centre in Long Prairie Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The Lakers (4-5-1) are 0-1 in Mid-State play and will aim for three wins in a row against the 3-10-1 North Stars. Prairie Center is winless in three conference games (0-2-1).
