Wildcats upend Fergus Falls
Dent pitcher Jeff Ronning kept the Hurricanes at bay and the Wildcat offense came alive late as the Wildcats improved to 2-0 with a 4-2 victory in their Countryside opener in Fergus Falls on May 14.
Ronning went the distance for the Wildcats. He allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits, while striking out four batters. His only blemishes came in the second and the fifth innings as the Hurricanes built up a 2-0 lead.
The offense for the Wildcats came alive in the sixth inning, scoring three runs. They added an insurance run in the eighth, which was more than enough for Ronning with the way he was pitching.
The Wildcats belted out nine hits with Andy Kratzke and Ronning leading the way with two each. Tyler Doll, Isaac Stoll, Beau Bruhn, Brock Collins and Taylor Doll had a hit each. Tyler Doll and Taylor Doll both drove in runs in the win.
Nick Johnson suffered the loss in relief. He went two innings, allowing three runs, two earned. Peter Gaustad started on the hill and pitched five scoreless innings. He gave up three hits, while striking out four and walking three. Jack Hiedeman pitched two innings, yielding a run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one.
