Twilight meet a success for Yellowjackets

The Perham cross country running teams competed under the night sky for the first time when they traveled to Moorhead to compete in the Minnesota State University-Moorhead Twilight meet on Sept. 8.

It was a good showing for the top-ranked Class A boys Yellowjacket squad and the second ranked Class A girls Yellowjacket team. The boys finished second, just behind Moorhead by two points. The girls captured third place, finishing behind Fargo Davies and Moorhead.

Moorhead finished first in the boys race with 42 points, while Perham was second by two points, finishing with 44 points. Fargo Davies followed in third place with 48 points, while Ada-Borup rounded out the field in fourth place with 104 points.

Fargo Davies’ Andrew Lundstrom won the 4K racer. He finished with a time of 12 minutes, 36.6 seconds. He was followed by a pair of Spuds in Zach Johnson and Dawson Strom. They finished with times of 12:37.4 and 12:51.9, respectively, for second and third place.

Perham’s Carson Speicher and Clayton Anderson rounded out the top five. Speicher finished the race with a time of 12:54.4, followed by Anderson, who crossed the line at 12:57.6.

Brandon O’Hara was the third Yellowjacket across the line when he finished seventh overall. He came in with a time of 13:09.4. Bailey Evenson was the fourth Yellowjacket member to finish in the top 10 of the event. Evenson finished with a time of 13:16.4.

Chase Belka cracked the top 20 for the Yellowjackets. He finished in 18th place, earning a time of 13:44.1. Owen Werner came in 21st place, finishing with a time of 13:53.9. Elijah Morrris ended the day in 22nd place, behind Werner, finishing with a time of 14:03.9.

In the girls event, Fargo Davies came in first place finishing with 23 points. Moorhead followed in second with 53 points, just narrowing out Perham for second. The Yellowjackets finished with 56 points. Ada-Borup rounded out the field with 119 points.

Fargo Davies’ Megan Lundstrom made it a sweep, finishing first with a time of 15:02.6. She was followed by Perham’s Caitlin Covington. Covington finished second overall, earning a time of 15:11.0.

McKenna Lovehaug and Ryleigh Wacha of Fargo Davies’ finished in third and fourth place, respectively, with times of 15:14.9 and 15:17.9, respectively. Moorhead’s Rylie Polomny rounded out the top five with a time of 15:20.1.

Ashley Hokanson earned a top 10 spot when she finished eighth overall. She came in with a time of 15:37.5. Hailey Wegscheid finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place. Wegscheid finished with a time of 15:53.3. Abby Tweeton was the fourth Yellowjacket across the line, finishing with a time of 16:03.0. Lacy Richter came in 19th for the Yellowjackets, making it five Yellowjackets in the top 20. She finished with a time of 16:52.9.

Emily VanWatermulen came in with a time of 16:57.2 for 20th place, while Mary Wunderlich finished in 22nd place with a time of 17:04.7.

The Yellowjackets are back in action on Sept. 14 when they travel to Little Falls to compete. The event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
