Perham boys take fifth at Lucky Lindy
The top-ranked Perham boys cross country team made a statement when it competed at the annual Lucky Lindy Invitational on Sept. 14 in Little Falls, Minn.
The Yellowjackets were the top finishing Class A team in a strong field of 22 teams. The field featured a potential matchup with a team they may see at the Class A state tournament with fourth ranked Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin.
Overall, the Yellowjackets finished fifth in the field with 132 points, while G/NK was the next closest Class A team, finishing seventh with 214 points. The overall winner was Sartell, finishing with 60 points. Hopkins was third with 94 points, followed by Alexandria with 99 points. Moorhead came in fourth with 110 points.
The top pack for the Yellowjackets had a strong showing with three runners inside the top 20. The individual winner was Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin’s Geno Uhrbom, the ninth grader finished with a winning time of 16 minutes and 11.09 seconds. Alexandria’s Keaton Gruber came in second, finishing with a time of 16:20.32. Sartell’s Alex Nemeth was third at 16:31.34, while Hopkins’ Eli Hoeft came in fourth at 16:32.29. Alexandria’s Jackson Wichtendahl was fifth at 16:35.84.
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was Carson Speicher. The senior runner came in 11th place, finishing with a time of 16:55.65. He set a pace of 5:26.90.
Following Speicher was Clayton Anderson. Anderson finished with a time of 16:57.09, earning 13th place honors. Brandon O’Hara came in 19th place for the Yellowjackets. He finished with a time of 17:12.84, with a pace of 5:32.43. The key that helped the Yellowjackets past GNK was their ability to have four runners finish before the Titans could have their second runner cross the line.
The fourth Yellowjacket across the finish line was Bailey Evenson. Evenson finished in 32nd place overall. He closed with a time of 17:35.51 for the Yellowjackets.
Following Evenson was sophomore Owen Werner. Werner came in 57th place overall. He finished with a time of 18:11.84. Chase Belka came in 69th place for the Yellowjackets. The sophomore finished with a time of 18:27.32. Elijah Morris rounded out the field for Perham. He finished with a time of 19:40.84, finishing in 108th spot.
The Yellowjackets return to action with a meet at Bagley on Sept. 19, before returning to one of the biggest cross country meets in the nation with the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, Sept. 23.
