The Perham Yellowjackets returned to the win column with a convincing 25-13, 25-16 and 25-8 victory over the Frazee Hornets in Heart O’Lakes Conference volleyball action in Frazee on Oct. 12.
The Yellowjackets built off a strong performance in defeat against Park Rapids Area with their drubbing of Frazee. They hope to continue the momentum as they gear up for the Section 8AA playoffs. Right now, the Yellowjackets are staring at a No. 3 seed in the southern subsection of 8AA with Crosby-Ironton right on their heels, hoping to pass them. The Yellowjackets have one game remaining, a home date with Pelican Rapids. The move to Class A has been kind for the Vikings. They are 16-3 overall and 13-2 against Section 6A opponents. Their lone losses are a pair of defeats to Barnesville and a 3-2 defeat to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
One of the keys for the Yellowjackets was on display during their victory over Frazee. Whenever the Yellowjackets are aggressive with their service game, they usually have success. The Yellowjackets had 14 aces and just five service errors in 73 serve attempts against the Hornets. Tayler Parks led the way with six ace serves. Lisa Meader finished with three ace serves.
Gabby DeBoer finished with 10 kills, while Laura Alstadt added six. Hannah Ekse finished with five kills in the win.
Aixa Kolofale ended with 18 assists, while Allie King finished with 15. Gabby DeBoer had 25 digs, while Meader finished with 14 and King added 13. The Yellowjackets hope to improve upon their 5-4 home mark and 14-11 record overall when they host Pelican Rapids on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
