Yellowjacket boys close regular season with win
The top ranked Perham boys cross country team is rounding into postseason form just at the right time as they closed out the regular season with a victory at the Bemidji Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 17 in Bemidji.
The Yellowjackets finished first at the seven team event, which takes place on the toughest course the Yellowjackets run at all season long according to Perham head coach Jeff Morris. He said it’s a course that a very few runners break the 17 minute mark at and he calls the course a callous builder.
The Yellowjackets are prime to extend their streak at the Section 8A Championships on Oct. 27 in Bagley. The top ranked team is the heavy favorite as defending section champions and hope to extend their state qualifying streak to 16 straight years.
Senior Carson Speicher was the individual race winner. He was one of three Yellowjackets in the top 10 and one of four in the top 15. Speicher finished the race with a winning time of 17 minutes and 14.3 seconds. He bested Dawson Strom of Moorhead, who finished second with a time of 17:21.0.
Finishing third for the Yellowjackets was Clayton Anderson. Anderson crossed the finish line with a time of 17:29.7. Bemidji’s Riley Berg came in fourth place at 17:32.9 and in fifth was Moorhead’s Austin Gruenberg at 17:33.4.

Isaac Scheidecker finished 20th, putting all seven runners in the top 20 for the Yellowjackets. Scheidecker ended the race with a time of 18:40.1.
