It took more than a month into the season before the Yellowjacket boys golf team was able to compete on their home course at Perham Lakeside G.C. They took full advantage on Monday with a first place finish in the Heart O' Lakes Conference meet there, scoring a 158 on the Maple Course.

The conference leader, Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal, finished second with a 160. Battle Lake was third with a 174, led by Taylor Frank, who earned medalist honors with a 37.

Perham freshman Dan Cavanagh was second overall with a 38. Evan Arvig tied for third with a 39, but finished in sixth after a scorecard playoff.

The HOL teams also played the Oak Course at PLGC. Perham had the low score over 18 holes as well with a 316. H/U-H was second with a 318.

Arvig had the best 18-hole score for Perham with a 78 (39-Oak). Next was Nic Smith with a 79 (41-37).

"I was pleased Nic stepped up," Tweeton said. "I thought we played O.K. overall. But I told them all that they need to drop two to three strokes each. We need to be at around 300 to have a serious chance to compete (at Sections)."

Cavanagh (38-42), Zach Phelps (40-40), and Jason Huus (43-37) each shot 80.

2nd at Barnesville

Perham finished second at the HOL at Barnesville Thursday afternoon.

H/U-H dominated the round with a score of 148, with three golfers shooting under 40. Perham was 10 shots off with a 158. Barnesville/Rothsay was third with a 159.

Brett Severson of H/U-H was medalist with a 35.

Perham was led by Arvig, who tied for third with a 37, but lost a scorecard playoff with three other players.
