NYM Baseball: Menahga knocks Eagles out of playoffs

Eagles base runner Ted Rohr rounds third and thinks about heading for home during last weeks 5-4 win over Otter Tail Central at Jacobson Field.

New York Mills scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to finish their regular season last Thursday with a 5-4 win over Otter Tail Central at Jacobson Field.

After OTC got on the board with a run in the top of the fifth, Mills answered with three in the home half of the inning. Tristan Huwe and Maison Roberts scored on RBI's by Jarrod Norton and Ted Rohr. Norton scored on an error to put the Eagles up 3-1.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the sixth, only to see Mills go back ahead in the bottom of the inning on a RBI fielders choice by Rohr scoring Huwe.

The back-and-forth battle continued in the seventh when OTC tied the game again. NY Mills needed just two batters in the bottom of the inning as Joe Hendrickx singled and stole second and got to third on a passed ball. He then scored on a sac fly by Dave Ayers to centerfield.

6A Playoffs Begin

New York Mills was the No. 7 seed in the north sub-section as they began the 6A playoffs Tuesday night at No. 2 Menahga. A late rally for the Eagles fell short as their season came to an end with a 4-3 loss.

NY Mills was down 4-0 after four innings when their bats came alive in the fifth. Hendrickx got things going with a solo home run. Adam Snelgrove followed with a walk and moved up on a single by Tanner Wegscheid. After a fielders choice by Huwe, Maison Roberts doubled and the score was 4-3.

Roberts finished the day 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, but it wasn't enough. The Eagles mounted one final rally in the seventh, but left two men on base to end the game.

Norton allowed just two earned runs over six innings in taking the loss for Mills.

The Braves swept the doubleheader with NY Mills this season on April 30, winning 6-1 and 4-3, and have now won five straight against the Eagles.

Menahga will now take on No. 3 Hawley today (May 28) in Verndale at 4:30 p.m. Hawley advanced with a 9-3 win over Verndale in the first round.

Also in Verndale at 2 p.m., No. 8 Parkers Prairie will take on No. 5 Pine River Backus. No. 1 Bertha-Hewitt was upset by the Panthers in the first round, 9-3. PR-B upset No. 4 Sebeka, 6-5.

No. 2 Hancock lost to No. 7 WCA in the first round, 8-5. WCA will face No. 3 Morris at 2:30 p.m. today (May 28) in Morris. Morris beat No. 6 Brandon-Evansville, 9-0, in the first round.
