PHS Baseball: Jackets survive 1st round scare

Brad Ellingson is greeted at home plate after his 2-run homer gave Perham a 7-5 win over Otter Tail Central in the 1st round of 8AA playoffs.

The Perham baseball team received the scare of their season Thursday at Krueger Field.

The Yellowjackets, seeded No. 1 in the south sub-section of the 8AA playoffs, barely survived a first round scare provided by the No. 8 seeded Otter Tail Central Bulldogs.

OTC led 5-2 heading into the seventh inning when the Jackets rallied for three runs to send the game into extra innings.

In the 10th inning, junior Brad Ellingson sent Perham to the second round with a two-run homer, giving them a 7-5 win.

"I called it," Ellingson said after his blast. "Before I went to the plate, I told the guys, 'I'm ending this now'".

Perham will now take on Fergus Falls in the second round. The game will be Saturday, May 30 at Krueger Field in Perham. The game has been moved up to 1 p.m. from it's originally scheduled time of 4 p.m.
