Amateur Baseball: Millers get 1st win

New York Mills pitcher Jeramie Weller pitched a complete game Friday night as the Millers picked up their first win of the season at Krueger Field over the Perham Pirates, 9-4.

NY Mills got on the board in the top of the fifth with two runs by Jason Grabow and Jason Burg. Perham scored one in the fifth and another in the sixth to tie the game, but the Millers went back on top in the seventh when Weller scored on a wild pitch.

Mills broke the game open in the eighth with five runs with Mike Baune delivering a two-run double.

After Perham got two runs back in the bottom half of the eighth, NY Mills added an insurance run in the ninth for their first victory of the season.

Burg went 3-for-5 with a walk, stolen base and three runs scored for NY Mills. Besides picking up the win, Weller had three hits and scored twice.

Josh Hendrickx went 2-for-4 for the Pirates. Tyler Doll, Justin Berns and Evan Meece drove in runs for Perham.

The Millers bookended their victory with losses to Hawley last Wednesday (12-4), and to Frazee on Sunday (6-4). This week, they will host W-DC on June 19 and Vergas on June 21 at Jacobson Field in NY Mills.

Pirates sweep Bulldogs

Jonnie Schmitz pitched his third complete game of the season Sunday at Krueger Field as Perham beat the Dent Bulldogs, 9-4.

Schmitz struck out 10 Bulldogs as he beat Dent for the second week in a row. Perham had also beat the Bulldogs, 9-4, on June 7.

Dent got on board first, scoring two in the top of the first on a double by Darin Stoll.

Perham bounced back with one in the bottom of the first, on a RBI single by Brad Ellingson, scoring Ryan Enger. The Pirates broke the game open in the fourth with five runs of Dent starter Kris Ostlie. Josh Hendrickx and Ryan Enger drove in runs before Ellingson drove in his second and third runs of the game with a single. Eric Weller added a RBI single to put Perham up 6-2.

Dent added a run in the fifth on an Ostlie single scoring David Stoll, and another in the sixth when Ernie Kawlewski scored on a passed ball.

Perham added three insurance runs in the eighth with Enger delivering a RBI double.

Wolf Lake at Turtle Fest

After a Countryside match-up with Frazee Wednesday, the Pirates will be home again Saturday for their Turtle Fest game following the American Legion Wood Bat Tournament. Old rival Wolf Lake will be at Krueger Field with first pitch scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m.

'Cats go 3-1

After a 2-0 win over Bluffton last Wednesday, the Dent Wildcats went 2-1 at the Bemidji Tournament last weekend.

The began the tourney with a 6-2 loss to Ada on Friday night. The 'Cats rebounded Saturday with a 6-4 win over Fort Ripley with Matt Richter picking up the win. They finished the tournament with a 7-6 win over Roseau on Sunday. Ryan Hendrickson picked up the win.

The big showdown in Dent between the Wildcats and Bulldogs will take place at Jake Wolford Field June 19 at 7:30 p.m.
