Plenty of Turtle Fest Sports Action to go around

It's a good weekend to be a sports fan in Perham this weekend during Turtle Fest.

You can start your Saturday watching the 5K and 10K races or the PHS Basketball Tournament that starts at 8 a.m.

The 5K and 10K races start at 9 a.m. at Perham Lakeside G.C. and finish at Paul Miller Park.

The Perham Yellowjacket basketball team will host their annual summer basketball tournament June 20 at the PACC and at Prairie Wind Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets will host varsity and J.V. teams from: New York Mills, Brandon-Evansville, St. Cloud Cathedral, Walker, Wadena-Deer Creek, Henning, Fergus Falls, Norman County East, Sebeka, Sauk Centre, Staples-Motley, menahga, Little Falls, Crookston and Cass Lake.

Varsity pool play begins in both gyms at 8 a.m. Tournament action will start at 2 p.m. The semifinals of the varsity tournamen will be at Prairie Wind Gymnasium at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for 6 p.m. at PWMS.

Perham will take on Brandon-Evansville at 8 a.m., Walker at 10 a.m., and St. Cloud Cathedral at 12 p.m. All three of the Jackets games will be at Prairie Wind Gymnasium.

The J.V. round-robin play will start at 2 p.m. Perham's J.V. will play W-DC at 2 p.m., Sauk Centre at 3 p.m., both at the PACC. Their final game will be at 5 p.m. against Pequot Lakes at Prairie Wind Gymnasium.

Maybe your thing is baseball. Well, the Perham Post 61 American Legion baseball team and the Perham Home Run Club will be hosting their annual Wood Bat Tournament this weekend during Turtle Fest. Games will be played at Krueger Field and Matt's Field June 20-21.

Perham will take on Frazee in the opening game at Krueger Field at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Other teams in the tournament include: Fosston, Park Rapids, Pelican Rapids, Win-E-Mac, Red Lake County and D-G-F.

Games continue all day Saturday and resume Sunday at Noon with the 7th place game at Matt's Field and the 3rd place game at Krueger Field.

The Championship game will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Krueger Field with the 5th place game at Matt's Field, also at 2 p.m.

If you stick around Krueger Field after the legion teams are finished, you can see the Perham Pirates take on Wolf Lake in Men's Amateur Baseball action starting at 7:30 p.m.

You say you'd rather watch the little guys? Then check out the Lakes Area Little League Tournament at the Little League Complex on Hwy. 51. While your out there, you can also check out the Turtle Fest Slow-Pitch Men's Softball Tournament. The 6-team tournament will begin play at 11 p.m. with the championship game scheduled for approximately 5 p.m.
