Legion Baseball: Perham starts playoffs this week

Perham's Post 61 American Legion team dropped their first game in Moorhead last Thursday against the Blues. But the Buzz bounced back in game two to earn a split.
Taylor Doll went the distance in game one, but took the loss as the Blues opened with a 5-2 win.
Moorhead scored three times in the third and added single runs in the fourth and sixth. The Buzz scored both of their runs in the fifth, both were unearned thanks to a pair of Moorhead errors.
Jon Langlie went 2-for-3 for Perham. Shane Miller Ben Brill and Tyler Lynne all went 1-for-3.
Perham came back in game two and earned a split with a 5-2 win.
The Buzz scored single runs in the second and third and tacked on three more in the seventh to go up 5-0. Their late runs came in handy Moorhead mounted a rally, scoring both of their runs in the final inning.
Trace Miller started for the Buzz and gave up two runs in the seventh before giving way to Lynne, who earned the save by getting the final two outs.
Brill went 2-for-3 at the plate for Perham. Andrew Muer was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Tuesday at DL
The Buzz played their final regular season game in Detroit Lakes Tuesday. Final scores were not reported at press time.
The Buzz will be the south's No. 2 team at the American Legion District 9, Division I Tournament this weekend in Thief River Falls. They open the tournament on Wednesday against Roseau, the No. 3 team from the north.
If they lose, their second round game will be Thursday at 1 p.m. If they beat Roseau, they will play at 7 p.m.
The championship is scheduled for Saturday, July 25 at 7 p.m. If necessary, a second title game will be July 26 at 4 p.m.
The north's No. 1 team entering the tourney is the host, TRF. The south's No. 1 team is Fergus Falls. Perham went 1-3 against Fergus Falls and 2-0 against TRF. They did not play Roseau in the regular season.
Post 4020 finished the summer 11-13.
The winner of District 9 will play in the American Legion Division I State Tournament in New Ulm, July 30-Aug. 2.
The American Legion Division II State Tournament will be in LeSueur-Henderson July 31-Aug. 2. The District 9, Div. II Tournament is in Warroad this weekend. The south team's alive are: No. 1 Pelican Rapids, No. 2 D-G-F, No. 3 Hawley and No. 4 Frazee.
