NYM Tennis: Eagles beat C-I

By John George

The New York Mills tennis team picked up an impressive 4-3 win over Crosby-Ironton Thursday in their first match in over a week.

"It's nice to pick up another close one and see our players really play hard and compete out there," head coach Gary Bach said. "We dominated the singles today, with only one very close, hard fought match getting away from us."

Mills won three of the four singles matches while allowing just one point. Isabelle Resch and Missy Hendrickx won 6-0, 6-0, and Lauren Bach won 6-0, 6-1.

The deciding match came at No. 2 doubles, where Krista Guldseth and Jenna Esala picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win.

"Our doubles teams continue to improve and get more competitive with each outing," Bach said. "Krista and Jenna gained momentum and confidence throughout their match to win in straight sets. Our young third doubles team of Abby (Salo) and Victoria (Selander) really played tough in the second set, which will help them hang in there even tougher in our next match."

New York Mills will take part in the Moose Invitational in Brainerd this Saturday. Teams expected to participate include: the Eagles, Brainerd, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Roseau, Perham and Parkers Prairie.

NY Mills will head to Parkers Prairie for a dual match on Sept. 15. The Eagles will return home on Sept. 17 for a dual against Park Rapids.
