PHS Tennis: Panthers knock off Lady Jackets

The Jackets traveled to Park Rapids on Tuesday where they dropped a 6-1 match to the Panthers.

Perham's only win came at No. 1 doubles, where Emily Wurgler and Whitney Delaney won 7-5, 6-4.

Mid-State next

The Lady Jackets will return to Park Rapids on Sept. 19 for the Mid-State Conference Tournament. Perham finished fifth at the seven-team tournament last year as Staples-Motley won their second straight conference crown.

Perham will return home on Sept. 22 for a dual match against Pequot Lakes. It will be the first of three-straight at home for the Jackets as they host Detroit Lakes on Sept. 24, followed by a match with New York Mills on Sept. 28.

4th in Brainerd

Perham finished in fourth place in the six-team Moose Invitational hosted by Brainerd High School last Saturday. Brainerd had a pair of individual champions as they finished first overall as a team with 25 points. Roseau and Glencoe-Silver Lake tied for second with 18 points, followed by Perham in fourth (8). New York Mills tied with Parkers Prairie with seven points.

The tournament used a modified scoring format. Meaning they played the best two of three sets, with sets starting at 2-2. There was no 'add scoring', meaning they didn't play past 'deuce' for points. They also played a tiebreaker in place of a full third set.
