United North Central was able to use its size and physical play to control both sides of the football in a 48-14 win over New York Mills Friday night in Menahga.

The Warriors offense punished Mills on the ground and through the air for 518 total yards. They rushed for 304 yards on 40 attempts, and threw for 214 more yards on 16-for-20 passing.

"Offensively, UNC was able to open good holes for their running backs while at the same time pick up every blitz that we ran at them to allow their quarterback to throw to his receivers for some big plays," Mills head coach Jon Kotaska said. "We could not answer their physical style of play up front, which made running the ball difficult. It forced us to throw the ball early or have to try and tuck the ball and run."

UNC scored twice in the first quarter and three more times in the second for a 34-0 lead before Mills got on the board. Tanner Wegscheid hit running back Jordan Novak on a screen pass that went 41 yards for a touchdown. A two-point conversion made the halftime score, 34-8.

In the fourth quarter, Novak went 61 yards for his second touchdown of the night. He finished with 95 yards on 10 carries to lead the Eagles. The screen pass was his only catch of the night.

On defense, Novak had eight solo tackles and 13 assists with an interception. Wegscheid had two picks with three solo tackles and four assists.

Both teams had three interceptions on the night and each had three fumbles, but UNC recovered all of theirs while NY Mills lost one. The Warriors (2-2, 2-0 Prairie-North) have now won three-straight against Mills.

The Eagles (0-4, 0-2 Prairie-North) will host Osakis this week as they hope to end their 21-game losing streak. It's the first meeting between the two teams since a 49-14 win for New York Mills in 2006.

Osakis (4-0, 1-0 Prairie-South), is ranked No. 10 in Class A and are coming off a 26-14 win over Otter Tail Central last week. They are averaging 27 points a game this season while allowing 14.8.
