NYM Girls Basketball: Eagles 2-0 after pounding Battle Lake

A big first half helped the Lady Eagles to their second win of the season, beating Battle Lake 68-48 Thursday night at the Mills Sports Center.

The Lady Eagles outscored Battle Lake 39-19 in the first half as Hannah Rutten and Brittnie Menze combined to score 25 of those points.

Rutten would finish with a game-high 22 points to go with 14 rebounds, and five assists. Menze ended with 12 points, all coming in the first half, and five boards.

In the second half, Kendra McCall took over, scoring 10 of her 13 points after halftime.

Alicia Boe had a nice all-around game for Mills, scoring 14 points with six steals, five assists and four rebounds.

The Battlers won last year's game, 57-37, for their third straight win against the Eagles.

The season opening homestand ends Dec. 8 with Henning coming to New York Mills to open Park Region Conference play. The Hornets were 6-18 last year (5-7 Park Region). They lost to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in the 6A South play-in game last March.

The Eagles won both games against Henning last year and have won seven straight against the Lady Hornets overall.

New York Mills first road game will be Dec. 10 in Twin Valley against Norman County East. The NCE Eagles were 11-14 last year, 9-9 in the Pine to Prairie Conference (6th place). Mills won last year's game, 68-24, their third in a row over NCE.
