The Perham wrestlers finished 2009 with a dominating performance in front of the home crowd at Prairie Wind Gymnasium Tuesday night. The Yellowjackets picked up five pins and a tech fall in a 50-21 win against Park Rapids.

After a Park Rapids pin to start the match, Brandon Lueders picked up a first period pin of his own at 112 pounds to tie the match at 6-6. Perham received a forfeit at 119, followed by a pin by Sam Warne and a 7-6 overtime win by Brady Sazama to put the Jackets up 21-6.

Park Rapids came back with two wins to narrow Perham's lead to 21-15. That's when Peyton Jordahl, an eighth grader, picked up a second period pin at 145 pounds for his first varsity victory.

A tech fall win by Cody Palubicki and a 11-9 win by Charlie Schmitz helped Perham rebuild a 20-point lead. The Jackets closed out the match with a decision by Chris Scheidecker and a pair of pins by Ben Brill and Jesse Hein.

" The guys looked better," head coach Robb Moser said. "Chris Scheidecker beat a very tough kid.

"Slowly, we are improving every match," Moser added. "Having some time off for just practice will be very good for this team."

Holiday break

Perham will have an 18-day break from competition over the holiday break before they return to action at their own Barrel O' Fun Invitational on Jan. 9.
