NYM Girls Basketball: NY Mills gets big road win in Ashby

Playing on back-to-back nights didn't seem to bother the Lady Eagles, as they trav-eled to Ashby Friday night and came home with an 84-61 win against their Section 6A rivals.

Ashby's Amanda Johnson and Mills' Hannah Rutten went head-to-head and both finished with impressive games. Johnson ended with 29 points and 12 rebounds, while Rutten also scored 29 to go with 15 boards, five steals and four assists.

The difference in the game was the Eagles ability to have three other girls in double figures (Alicia Boe with 14, Kendra McCall with 13, and Samantha Welter with 10). Ashby's next leading scorer behind Johnson had only eight points.

The Eagle defense was the big reason Ashby couldn't keep up on the scoreboard. The Aarow's were just 24-for-79 from the field (30 percent). They were just 1-for-11 from 3-point land, and were only 12-for-26 from the free throw line.

Mills, on the other hand, shot nearly 50 percent from the field overall (34-for-69), and 60 percent from inside 3-point land (28-for-47).

Mills won last year's game, 65-48. The Aarow's are 4-3 so far this season.
