The Lady Jacket basketball team was supposed to be playing their third game in five days, and their second in back-to-back night's on Tuesday when they hosted Staples-Motley. But, thanks to postponements on Friday at Ulen-Hitterdal and Monday against New York Mills, Perham was playing their first game in more than a week.

The time off may have had it's affect, as the Jackets lost their second straight game, 55-50.

Staples-Motley had a two-point lead at the half, 20-18, and led 44-43 with three minutes to play. The Cardinals briefly extended their lead to five, but a Steph Miller 3-pointer with a minute to play made the score 48-46.

Miller again got the Jackets to within two, 50-48, as she sank 2-of-3 free throws after getting fouled on a 3-point attempt.

But S-M went 5-for-6 from the line in the final 30 seconds to put the game away. Scoring at the line was the difference in the game. The Cardinals were 15-for-18 (79 percent), while Perham was just 6-for-14 (43 percent).

Perham did have their chances in the final moments, missing three free throws and a lay-up in the final 1:20 of the game. The Lady Jackets shot just 35 percent from the field (21-for-60) and committed 26 turnovers in the loss.

Katrina Moenkedick led the Jackets with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Miller finished with seven points, seven boards and seven assists.

The Cardinals (11-3) handed Perham their only regular season loss last year, 61-58, in overtime. It's the first time the Jackets have lost consecutive games since Jan. 31 and Feb. 5, 2008.

Games rescheduled

The Jackets were scheduled to play at Ulen-Hitterdal on Friday, Jan. 22. The game was postponed due to weather and will be made up on Thursday, Feb. 25

Perham has won five-straight over U-H, including a 72-30 win on Dec. 7.

Perham's other postponement, the Jan. 25 game against Hwy. 10 rival New York Mills, will be rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 12 at Prairie Wind Gymnasium.

The Jackets have won five in a row over Mills. The Eagles last win in the series was a 44-40 overtime victory in December, 2003.

Slow week

The Lady Jackets will have a slow week, with just one game. Perham will host Breckenridge tonight (Jan. 28) at Prairie Wind Gymnasium. Perham's 60-38 win on Dec. 10 was their seventh in a row over the Cowgirls.

The Lady Jackets will then get a week off before a non-conference game at Section 8AA rival Wadena-Deer Creek on Feb. 4.
